**Update** -- April 15 at 4:35 a.m. EST: Mark Evans, who says that he is the son of original AC/DC singer Dave Evans, tweeted a few hours ago that reports of AC/DC's imminent retirement announcement are not merely rumors. He added: "Malcolm Young is very sick.... [Malcolm's son] Ross Young spoke to my father this morning because the cat got out.... But yes, the band will be finished…. No new shows or music."

**Update #2** -- April 15 at 5:20 a.m. EST: Australian journalist Darryl Mason writes on The Orstrahyun that "when AC/DC recently reunited in a rehearsal studio, Malcolm Young discovered he had forgotten how to play, due to a brain clot on his brain." He adds: "AC/DC won't continue playing and recording without Malcolm. It can't be done."

According to The Australian, a "music industry source" has confirmed that AC/DC has booked a recording studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for six weeks from May 1, directly contradicting other Australian media reports that suggest the legendary rock hard rock band is about to announce its retirement.

An ubsubstantiatted report from Australian radio station 3AW appeared Tuesday morning (Australian time) saying the band could announce its retirement decision as soon as tomorrow, with the station's entertainment commentator Peter Ford saying that “we may not hear them perform or record ever again." He added that "there was some sad detail" behind the move, indicating that "Malcolm Young, one of the founding members of the group, has in recent times returned to Australia to live with his family and for his own personal reasons he may not want to continue with the band."

If AC/DC does end up recording a new album this spring, the project will be the first set of new AC/DC material since 2008's "Black Ice" CD. In addition, the band was previously expected to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year by playing 40 shows in selected cities around the world which have not yet been announced.

The plans were revealed by singer Brian Johnson in a surprise phone call he made on February 14 to a radio station in West Palm Beach, Florida. Johnson is a resident of the state.

Asked about the group's plans, Johnson said, "We've been denying anything, 'cause we weren't sure. One of our boys was pretty ill, so we didn't like to say anything, and we're very private about things like this, so we didn't wanna say anything. But I think we'll be going in the studio in May in Vancouver. Which means, we should be getting ready."

Johnson added, "It's been 40 years of the band's existence, so I think we're gonna try to do 40 gigs, 40 shows, to thank the fans for their undying loyalty. I mean, honestly, our fans are just the best in the world, and we appreciate every one of them. So, like I said, we'll have to go out, even though we're getting a bit long in the tooth [Laughs]."

Johnson alluded to one of the members of the band being ill in a 2012 interview, adding that the unnamed member was "getting better" with a "full recovery fully expected."

Meanwhile, bassist Cliff Williams hinted in March 2013 that guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young were writing music for the band's next album.

A banda australiana AC/DC recusou uma oferta de 6 milhões de dólares para tocar no fim deste ano, em Porto Alegre, na abertura da Arena do Grêmio, onde o novo estádio do clube deve ser inaugurado. De acordo com o Grêmio Empreendimentos, os irmãos Young disseram "Não" para a oferta feita ao grupo.

A banda Foo Fighters surge como um segundo plano para o Grêmio, que pretende manter o Rock durante a abertura. "É um caminho possível", comentou o presidente da Grêmio Empreendimentos, Eduardo Antonini.

RUMOURS\\ Grêmio negocia show do AC/DC na nova Arena

O Grêmio confirmou, nesta quinta-feira, o adversário e a data do amistoso de inauguração da Arena. O Bayern de Munique será o oponente no dia 8 de dezembro, caso não seja campeão da Liga dos Campeões. Além disso, o clube gaúcho garantiu que será realizado um show da cantora Madonna na despedida do Olímpico e há uma negociação com o AC/DC para tocar no novo estádio.

"O adversário será o Bayern. Estamos esperando o desfecho da Liga dos Campeões para colocar tudo no papel, mas já acertamos detalhes para enfrentar eles no dia 8 de dezembro, inaugurando a Arena", disse o presidente da Grêmio Empreendimentos, Eduardo Antonini, à Rádio Bandeirantes.

Caso o Bayern vença a liga dos campeões, não será possível a partida. Isto porque não haverá data disponível para a partida.

As festividades de mudança de estádio do Grêmio terão, ainda, um show da cantora Madonna no Olímpico. A produtora do evento faz questão de não confirmar o acerto, mas o clube já o faz.

A Arena também irá receber uma show. A banda escolhida é o AC/DC, mas tal evento ainda não pode ser anunciado. "Temos que ouvir a torcida, sabemos que eles querem o AC/DC. Mas neste caso temos dificuldades. Temos a informação que eles estão formatando uma turnê, e pode ser que estejam na Ásia nesta época", disse o diretor.

Localizado na zona norte de Porto Alegre, o novo estádio do Grêmio terá capacidade para mais de 60 mil pessoas e tem mais de 60% da obra concluída. O Olímpico será repassado para empresa OAS - contratada para construção da casa nova - e posteriormente implodido para construção de um empreendimento imobiliário.

O processo de mudança ocorre neste ano. Por isso, o Grêmio trata a temporada com muito carinho. A ideia é no primeiro ano da Arena estar disputando a Libertadores. Para isso é necessário garantir vaga na competição pela Copa do Brasil, Brasileirão ou Copa Sul-Americana.

The Pulse Of Radio reports that U2's "The Joshua Tree" has been voted the best album of the Eighties by the readers of Rolling Stone magazine, according to a new poll released by the publication. The record, U2's fifth studio set, edged out contenders like GUNS N' ROSES' "Appetite For Destruction" and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN's "Born In The U.S.A.", while the other finalists in the Top 10 included sets from AC/DC, THE CLASH, METALLICA, THE CURE, MICHAEL JACKSON, PRINCE and THE SMITHS.

The editors said it was a close race. They also noted that THE CLASH's "London Calling" barely made the list because it was released in the U.S. in January 1980, although it came out in the U.K. in December 1979.

Regarding "The Joshua Tree", the editors said, "It turned them into one of the biggest bands in the world . . . by the end of it they were playing stadiums."

On the Number Two album, "Appetite For Destruction", they wrote: "Their songs were gritty and menacing and they portrayed their city as a violent urban jungle populated by pornographers and drug-addicted thugs."

Former GUNS N' ROSES lead guitarist Slash told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that part of the album's success was due to the fact that it filled a void in rock music at the time. "We were the only band that was doing what it was that we were doing, with the attitude that we had," he said. "People were starved for it, because, I mean, other than us, there was SIMPLE MINDS and MÖTLEY CRÜE. I mean, you know, (chuckles) Cyndi Lauper, you know? I mean, that's what was going on then. So people were dying for, like, a real, blood-sweat-and-tears rock-and-roll band."

AC/DC's "Back In Black" was called "one of the greatest hard rock albums of all time," while METALLICA's "Master Of Puppets" "transformed them from a cult thrash metal band to the most popular group in the history of the genre."

According to Reuters, AC/DC came in at No. 2 on the list of the world's top concert attractions of 2010 after making all its money overseas. AC/DC grossed $177 million from 40 shows while METALLICA was No. 5 with $110.1 million from 60 overseas dates. Meanwhile, BON JOVI ended the year as the world's top concert draw, having sold $201.1 million worth of tickets, split almost evenly between North America and the rest of the world.

AC/DC was honored in the "Top Boxscore" category at the Billboard Touring Awards, which were handed out at a special reception in New York on November 4. The awards are primarily based on global box office numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore from October 1, 2009, through September 30, 2010.

The "Top Boxscore" award recognizes the highest-grossing single engagement for the time period. Two of the Boxscore finalists were from AC/DC: a three-night, sold-out stand at ANZ Stadium in Sydney and three more sellouts at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne; both were in February. The third finalist for Top Boxscore was the Download festival in the U.K.

METALLICA wrapped up its two-year-long "World Magnetic" tour on November 21 with the last of three shows in Melbourne, Australia, bringing to an end a trek that began on September 12, 2008 in Berlin to support the band's ninth studio album, "Death Magnetic". The group issued a statement compiling the tour's numbers, which included "45 countries, 143 arena shows, 34 festival shows, 29 stadium shows, four club/theater shows, three TV/radio shows, two Hall of Fame shows, 3790 songs, and not a single setlist was the same."

The group played a total of 216 shows in 800 days.

METALLICA is already confirmed to headline Rock In Rio next September in Brazil. The band will also make several festival appearances in Europe over the summer.

SEFOTEU \\ Phil Rudd, baterista do AC/DC, é multado por posse de maconha na Nova Zelândia

O baterista da banda de rock AC/DC, Phil Rudd, foi condenado por um tribunal da Nova Zelândia nesta quarta-feira a pagar uma multa pela posse de 27 gramas de maconha, o que pode causar-lhe problemas em turnês internacionais.

Rudd, de 56 anos, teve que pagar 250 dólares neozelandeses (US$ 185) por uma falta menor que, no entanto, pode prejudicar sua carreira ao vetar sua entrada em alguns países, indicou seu advogado à imprensa local.

"Não sou uma má pessoa", declarou o baterista australiano, cujo nome legal é Phillip Witschke.

Seu advogado, Tuck Craig, assinalou que Rudd, que em 2009 ganhou US$ 296 milhões em suas excursões com o AC/DC, não tem antecedentes penais e nos últimos meses viajou a trabalho a pelo menos 20 países.

"Ele viaja muito ao redor do mundo e, com esta falta menor, terá problemas em sua carreira", assinalou Craig.

A polícia encontrou a droga em 7 de outubro durante uma batida em uma festa organizada por Rudd na cidade de Tauranga, na costa leste da ilha do Norte, para onde o baterista se mudou recentemente.

A Polícia, no entanto, se negou a retirar as acusações e a juíza Robyn Paterson disse no julgamento que o integrante do AC/DC, dada sua idade e sua carreira internacional, deveria ter consciência dos riscos causados pelas drogas.

Rocknews\\ AC/DC: banda é extorquida em estrada na Romênia

Segundo o Herald Sun, o governo da Romênia despediu quatro funcionários públicos depois que os australianos do AC/DC ficaram presos em uma "Highway to Hell" (trocadilho com o clássico da banda) e foram indevidamente solicitados a pagar para deixar o país.

Um quinto trabalhador da empresa nacional de estradas da Romênia teve o cargo rebaixado com o incidente, que aconteceu após a banda ter se apresentado no mês passado diante de 60 mil fãs, em Bucareste.

Os trabalhadores tinham parado o comboio da banda na fronteira húngara e exigiram €2.500 (dois mil e quinhentos euros) em multas por suposta falta de pagamento de pedágio.

Em uma carta à empresa o AC/DC disse que não recebeu qualquer recibo da suposta multa.

"AC/DC: Iron Man 2" vendeu cerca de 76 mil cópias nos Estados Unidos em sua primeira semana de lançamento e assim estreou na º 4 posição na Billboard 200.

Em 1977, depois um show em Helsinki (Finlândia) e de uma bebedeira generalizada no backstage, Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) ameaçou Malcom Young (AC/DC) com uma faca automática, após uma briga fenomenal. Apesar das desculpas de Malcolm e da intermediação de Ozzy, o AC/DC teve de regressar a Londres (Inglaterra), deixando de ser a banda de abertura.
