DEVILDRIVER and COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Fafara has released a benefit song for his sister Kerri, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Entitled "Dark Meadowlark", the track was produced by Greg Weiss (DEVILDRIVER) and was mixed by Logan Mader (SOULFLY, GOJIRA, DEVILDRIVER).

Says Dez: "['Dark Meadowlark'] is about my sister who is a ray of sunshine, but has a dark sense of humor much like myself, thus the [track title]."

He added, "The song was mixed by Logan Mader and produced by Greg Weiss, who played bass and balalaika, along with Dan Yob on guitar, and Zac Morris on drums. I would also like to thank Winson and Doug at Third Encore for letting us use their amazing facilities, and Doug from Rack Attack Rentals for providing us with some great gear to record with."

Even with insurance, Kerri's family can't cover the costs of her surgery, chemotherapy and radiation for the upcoming year. "We have two daughters still at home, we've relocated from Boise to Irvine (really close to UCLA/UCI treatment center — what good fortune!), but the cost of two years of what's called 'out of pocket maximum costs' are definitely a burden," she says.

COAL CHAMBER no Brasil \\ Nova mudança de local do show

A Negri Concerts informa que a apresentação do Coal Chamber em São Paulo, no dia 8 de setembro, que aconteceria no Santana Hall, foi transferida para o Cine Jóia, para mesmo dia, a partir das 22h. A mudança de local se deve ao fato da casa de espetáculo anterior ter sido lacrada essa semana; a prefeitura fechou o local por conta de problemas na documentação e alvará que o proprietário do prédio onde fica o Santana Hall não apresentou apropriadamente.

Pedimos desculpas por este segundo inconveniente, mas a casa só notificou a Negri Concerts durante esta semana. Os ingressos já adquiridos para o Carioca Club e Santana Hall continuam valendo no Cine Jóia.

Sempre fui fã do Coal Chamber, uma das melhores bandas surgidas no movimento nu-metal, mas este evento tem 3 grandes pontos negativos:
1) Produção da Negri Concerts (Metal Open Air)
2) Mudança de local, do Carioca Club para o péssimo Santana Hall.
3) Mudança de data, do dia 9(domingo) para o dia 8(sábado), mesmo dia do show do TRIVIUM.

Drummer Mikal "Mikey" Cox of COAL CHAMBER, the reformed '90s alt-metal band fronted by current DEVILDRIVER singer Dez Fafara, broke two fingers while performing with COAL CHAMBER earlier today (Saturday, February 25) at RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane, Australia during this year's Soundwave Festival.

Heavy music presenter Christina Rowatt of Australia's Soundwave TV conducted an interview with COAL CHAMBER, the reformed '90s alt-metal band fronted by current DEVILDRIVER singer Dez Fafara, prior to the group's first show together in almost a decade. You can now watch the chat below.

COAL CHAMBER is playing its first reunion dates in late February and early March as part of Australia's Soundwave Festival.

When asked by Full Metal Jackie in a recent interview how he feels about the return of COAL CHAMBER, Dez said, "Unbelievable. Full circle. I mean, to get those guys back in my life and clean off hard drugs and want[ing] to do shows, it's incredible. The feeling is incredible and the love had been just incredible as well. I woke up at 4:30 the other morning with my phone ringing off the hook and my Twitter, everything going crazy, it's so good to see. After all these years, we haven't played together in 10 years. . . We've been going over the setlist and it's been nothing but fun right now. I mean, going back and forth about a setlist with these guys just turns into jokes and hours of e-mails of jokes and we forget what we're doing. So you realize that these guys are a big, big part of my life and I don't even know if I'd be here with DEVILDRIVER for Meegs [guitar] and Mikey drums], so it's good to have them back in my life and getting ready to go do COAL CHAMBER shows."

Regarding why neither of the two former COAL CHAMBER bassists — Nadja Peulen or Rayna Foss — is involved in the band's reunion, Dez said, "Rayna was not [asked to be a part of it]. Rayna has been out of the band for a very long time. We did speak to Nadja. She has other things going and it wasn't really in the headspace where we were at as a band. We found Chela; she's Canadian and she's a bad-ass player. She's been playing for nearly 12 years. She plays five-string and it's going to be good to have her on bass. She grew up with COAL CHAMBER. She's only 26-27 years old. She knows the songs, and just hearing her on the phone, the excitement [in her voice], that's really what I wanted brought to the table. Where Meegs and Mikey and I am right now, we're really excited so we needed someone that filled that excitement drawer and she did for sure; she's stoked."

In an interview with Hollywood Music Magazine, Meegs stated about WE ARE THE RIOT, "The music that I’m playing in WE ARE THE RIOT is exactly representative of where I'm at as an artist right now. The chemistry, bond, and unity in this band is beyond anything I expected. Everyone in this band is literally in unison, musically and personality-wise. I'm having so much goddamn fun with a bunch of musicians that are very talented and very emotional. Chaotic, raw and insane."

Alternative Music Hub recently conducted an interview with Dez Fafara (DEVILDRIVER, COAL CHAMBER) about COAL CHAMBER's upcoming reunion tour as part of Australia's Soundwave Festival. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

Alternative Music Hub: How excited are you to play as COAL CHAMBER again?

Dez: Very excited; it has been a slow progression. Meegs [Miguel Rascón, guitar] and Mikey [Mike Cox, drums] started to come around in '05. They came around to a sold-out DEVILDRIVER show in California and Meegs pulled my wife aside and apologized to her about everything that went that caused my family to move into a one-bedroom apartment and start all over again. I thought that was rather big-hearted of him and they were off hard drugs for 2-3 years then. Cut to '09, Meegs came up to DEVILDRIVER to play [COAL CHAMBER's] "Loco" with us on stage in Pasadena. At the end of it, he came up and gave me a hug and said, "I want to do this in the future." Now in 2011 we are talking about doing shows. They have been off the hard drugs for some time so they can play at 100 percent capacity. We want to bring back the Ten Ton Gorilla back on the stage.

Alternative Music Hub: That is good to hear as the drugs were an issue that caused the breakup.

Dez: When I left COAL CHAMBER, I told the press I was leaving because I wanted to go a different musical direction. But what I did was take the high road and not say in front of their wives, parents and families, all of whom I have known for years, that, "Hey, they are so strung out on drugs they are going to be dead." I just took the high road and said I was leaving. That was good because I never went against them in the press. It allowed them to get clean and allowed us to be friends. I realized that every night I was on stage with a microphone in my hand, I was putting money in their pockets which led to putting drugs into their hands. Once we stopped going on stage as COAL CHAMBER, their money ran out, their fame ran out and they eventually had to get clean. Now that they are alive, what more do you need to say apart from, my friends are alive and want to play music.

Alternative Music Hub: What is the situation with [former COAL CHAMBER bassists] Nadja [Peulen] or Rayna [Foss]?

Dez: Well, Rayna was far gone, way in the beginning. She has some stuff she is dealing with internally, which I don't think will bring her back to music. Nadja, we had talks with her. We needed the enthusiasm as well as… We didn't want any demands; because we had no demands. It was the best interest of the original members was to go find someone with the same interest as we did and enthusiasm. That is where Chela [Rhea Harper] had come from. She's [a] real-deal player. She grew up with the music of COAL CHAMBER, brings that enthusiasm and she is an amazing-looking girl so she will have a great stage presence.

Alternative Music Hub: I know it has been said that COAL CHAMBER are only playing Soundwave but if it all goes well, could we see other tours around the world?

Dez: Since we announced we are doing Soundwave, we have offers to do tours and we are not even discussing it. We have been offered three or four record deals. We want to come down and have a fun time and full of happiness. Once we get home from it, then we may discuss it. Keep in mind three days after we get home from Soundwave, I go on tour of America with DEVILDRIVER. So with DEVILDRIVER being booked, it will be hard to have both.

COAL CHAMBER, the '90s alt-metal band fronted by current DEVILDRIVER singer Dez Fafara, will reform for next year's Soundwave festival in Australia.

Commented Dez: "COAL CHAMBER is playing Soundwave Down Under! These reunion shows are for the fans that want to see us again as well as all the people that never got to see COAL CHAMBER. It is and always will be a very special part of my life, so these few shows are for those people and for us.

"If you're not from Australia, better get a ticket now to come see this event!"

Added guitarist Miguel "Meegs" Rascón: "Australia has never seen us, nor have we seen them. It will be an extraordinary exchange of energy and adrenaline.

"Hello Aussies, nice to meet you!"

He continued, "This reunion will mark a decade since we last played together, so staring at my brothers on stage face to face will be an emotional rollercoaster for me. Tears of joy would be an understatement, to say the least.

"You know, all of us have gone through our separate journeys in life, but we're coming back to rekindle this and throw the past in the past and put the future in our hands."

Stated drummer Mike Cox: "Of all the great achievements COAL CHAMBER made in the past, getting back together after all we've been through will be the greatest achievement to date."

Concluded Dez: "We've all grown up and put the personal past behind us now and are moving forward with these few shows in a spirit of friendship through music.

"You must remember where you came from in order to know where you are going."

DEZ FAFARA do DEVILDRIVER recentemente compartilhou sua experiência com Paul Stanley, do Kiss, como uma resposta a um fã que perguntou se Dez poderia dar uma ouvida na banda do tal.

“Eis porque eu nunca dou ‘Minha Opinião’ sobre bandas sem contrato com gravadoras”, começa Dez. “Um dia, no trabalho antes de eu jamais ter um contrato, Paul Stanley entrou – SIM, do Kiss e eu disse a ele que eu estava numa banda chamada COAL CHAMBER e que estávamos prestes a assinar com a «gravadora» Roadrunner Records.”

De acordo com Dez, Stanley disse a ele para “Ficar naquele emprego”, e que “NINGUÉM nunca faz sucesso – somente em raros casos. Dois dias depois eu assinei com a RR e nunca me arrependi! O grupo é completado pelos integrantes Andy Cole, Jonny Sculls Flanagan e Cheyne Fritts. Nenhuma outra informação foi divulgada até agora.
