Premiere\\ RIVAL SONS: 'Open My Eyes' Video Released

"Open My Eyes", the new video from Long Beach, California's RIVAL SONS, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's forthcoming album, "Great Western Valkyrie", which will be released on June 10 in the USA (one day earlier internationally). The CD was recorded with producer Dave Cobb at LCS Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.

"Open My Eyes" is available immediately for everyone who pre-orders the album on iTunes, along with a previously released song, "Electric Man".

The iTunes version of the album also includes five exclusive bonus tracks which are available only to those who pre-order the album, and will not be available after release date.

The "Open My Eyes" song and commentary are available below.

Comments RIVAL SONS frontman Jay Buchanan: "Every time we set out to make a record, the experience ends up being some of the old and some of the new. Same studio, same town, same on-spot writing/recording process with the same guys. Actually, not the same guys; we have a new bass player in Dave Beste, and we had my buddy Ikey Owens (THE MARS VOLTA, JACK WHITE) throw down some craziness on keys while he was in town.

"I'd like to think we became a little bit more of ourselves making this record and that the selection of influences has broadened a bit. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Miley during the recording; I believe his playing on this record is his most lyrical and musical yet and that's probably a direct reflection of Beste's fresh blood in the mix.

"Speaking of Beste, whoa. Thunder from his hands all over this album.

"I think Scott really expanded his approach in these songs and you can definitely hear it in the moodier tracks, while on the hot tracks you can hear him forcing his aviary of Firebirds to drink moonshine. Dangerous.

"There are some serious house burners on 'Great Western Valkyrie' but there are also a couple where thesis dictated more subtlety from the arrangement.

"My performance? I think it's more of the same on my end, but Cobb did tell me that my finest performances were given in these sessions, but what the fuck does he know?

"They say the truth is in the taste — I'd say this record is the filthy magazine hidden in the hymnal."

Premiere\\ RIVALS SONS: 'Keep On Swinging' Video Released

"Keep On Swinging", the new video from California blues rockers RIVALS SONS, can be seen below. The band once again worked with director Greg Ephraim, who also helmed the group's "Pressure And Time" and "All Over The Road" clips.

Commented RIVAL SONS frontman Jay Buchanan: "Shooting the video for 'Keep On Swinging' was a pleasure. Snake handling while wailing to a congregation in an old church is pretty high up there on the list of odd ways to pass the time; excuse me while I go to hell."

Added RIVAL SONS drummer Michael Miley: "We recently returned from an exciting expedition; it was an adventure. The Spirit was moving in that room. We were playing in a church somewhere in the South (can't reveal exact location) and had to convince this congregation we could be a musical catalyst for the casting out of demons; we succeeded. We had to tame snakes with our music. There was a swarm of ravens. A girl that was baptized was on fire! Crazy stuff! And it was all caught on tape... I'm sure it will be all over the interwebs soon. Be on the lookout."

RIVAL SONS is featured in a new interview in which he discusses his musical upbringing, recording the band's new album, "Head Down", in Nashville, and some of the equipment used by the group in the studio. Check it out below.

RIVAL SONS will celebrate the release of "Head Down" with an exclusive track-by-track audio commentary on Spotify.

The commentary will be featured on Spotify from September 17 alongside "Head Down", and includes the bandmembers talking about the meanings and inspiration behind all thirteen mind-blowing tracks on the new album.

"Head Down" will be released in Europe on September 17 via Earache Records. The CD, which will be made available in the U.S. in November, was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Cobb (JAMIE JOHNSON, SHOOTER JENNINGS) and Grammy-wining engineer Vance Powell (JACK WHITE, THE WHITE STRIPES, KINGS OF LEON). The artwork was created by Jason Holley (JOSH RITTER, RAY LAMONTAGNE) and can be seen below.
