Premiere\\ VOIVOD: 'Kluskap O'Kom' Video Released

"Kluskap O'Kom", the new video from Canadian progressive metal pioneers VOIVOD, can be seen below. The clip, which originally premiered at Philip H. Anselmo's Housecore Horror Film Festival in October in Austin, Texas, was directed by Syl Disjonk, who is best known for his short horror film "Ethereal Chrysalis". The director of photography was JP Bernier (DESPISED ICON).

Asked about the meaning of "Kluskap O'Kom", VOIVOD vocalist Denis "Snake " Bélanger said: "Sometimes described as a giant coming out of the woods, sometimes a monster in a lake or sometimes a powerful being that came from the sky, Kluskap is the name for this strange character and O'Kom is the place where he lives.

"Kluskap is inspired by a legend from a Canadian native tribe called the Micmacs. He once came to earth to kill all the Dinosaurs in order to help the humans to take over the planet. "One day Kluskap will come back with another mission to the humans.

"There are many similarities between the Kluskap story and other legends from tribes all around the globe; stories told of encounters with beings from other worlds. This one is very unique, I thought.

"So here it is; Hear the thunder, it is me, coming back!!!! 'KlusKap O'Kom'!"

VOIVOD also released a seven-inch single for the song, featuring artwork from the band's drummer, Michael "Away" Langevin, and limited to 1000 copies worldwide. The b-side features a live version of "Kluskap O'Kom" recorded in Berlin on the band's last European headlining tour. The single comes in black, grey and black and white swirl colored vinyl and can be purchased here.

In related news, VOIVOD recently partnered with a local Montreal brewery to produce a limited batch of "Kluskap O'Kom" beer. Guitarist Dan "Chewy" Mongrain explains: "Frederic Cormier, the brewer and owner of Hopfenstark Micro-Brewery, and I had this Idea for a couple years of crafting a VOIVOD beer. This year, with the new album, 'Target Earth', and our 30th anniversary, the timing was perfect to celebrate and brew! So I asked the guys if they were into it and everybody thought it was a great idea! We sampled different types of ale, lager, stout, IPA, season, wheat etc to come up with the type of beer we wanted to do. We also talked about the concept and decided to associate the VOIVOD beer not only with the band's name but with a song from the latest opus. We chose Kluskap O'Kom, which is inspired by American-Indian legends and modern reality.

"We wanted the beer to have a taste from the woods, the terroir, so to speak. So Frederic had this idea of crafting the beer with Mugwort and Balsam Fir, which we ended up picking up in the woods.

"The beer is made with fresh ingredients; it's easy to drink yet with complex, well-balanced flavors.

"We just invited friends and fans to the release party in Montreal at Station Ho.st (bar owned by the brewer) and it was a complete success! Lots of people celebrating the 30th anniversary of VOIVOD, making toasts with a Kluskap O'Kom beer, listening to some VOIVOD, watching a two-hour [documentary on the] making of the beer, plus we had a surprise when our director friend showed up with a DVD to play the promo video of 'Kluskap O'Kom'!! It was a perfect magical evening... I ended up going to bed at 6 a.m... smiling. How could life be better than that?"

"Target Earth", the video for the title track of the new album from Canadian progressive metal pioneers VOIVOD, can be seen below. The clip, created by Italian filmmaker and multimedia artist Nicola Piovesan, recreates in 3D motion graphics the visions and artwork of VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin.

Comments Langevin: "I met Nicola Piovesan at the VOIVOD/UNKIND show in Helsinki on October 31, 2012. We had a discussion about my 3D graphics for the album 'Negatron' and Nicola mentioned the possibility of him doing a 3D motion video for our new album, 'Target Earth'. After viewing his fantastic video for 'The Core' by the band ON|OFF|MAN, we knew he was the right person to capture the cyber world of VOIVOD. To us, the result is simply spectacular!"

Nicola Piovesan (aka: chaosmonger) is an Italian filmmaker and multimedia artist living in Finland. He was born in April 1979 in Venice and moved to Bologna in 1999 where he graduated in cinema in 2004. Piovesan started making videos in 2001, and they have been screened in about 70 festivals worldwide to-date, winning more than 30 awards. He has worked as a freelance since 2005, collaborating with various production houses and private clients to produce independent short films, documentaries, music videos, and much more. In 2008 he also started teaching cinema in a high school in Como, which resulted in him moving to Milan. In the fall of 2011, Piovesan stopped teaching and moved to Helsinki, Finland where he currently lives, continuing his work as a filmmaker and visual artist.

VOIVOD's new album, "Target Earth", sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD was issued on January 22 via the band's own company, Iron Gang Factory, and Century Media.

VOIVOD's previous album, "Infini", opened with around 840 units back in July 2009.

"Target Earth" was recorded in early 2012 at Pierre Rémillard's (OBLIVEON, CRYPTOPSY, KRISIUN, MISERY INDEX) Wild Studio in a small town called St-Zénon in Quebec, Canada and was mixed by Sanford Parker (PELICAN, NACHTMYSTIUM). The follow-up to 2009's "Infini" contains the band's first music to be written with guitarist Dan Mongrain (MARTYR) following the passing of original axeman Denis "Piggy" D'Amour in 2005. The original art was once again drawn by drummer Michel "Away" Langevin and features color schemes from each one of the band's previous albums.

SEFOTEU\\ 'Shockwave 2012' Tour Officially Canceled

Due to reasons beyond the band’s control, Los Angeles cyber metallers FEAR FACTORY will not take part in the inaugural "Shockwave 2012" tour, which was scheduled to kick off on July 6 in Seattle, Washington.

Commented the band in a statement: “We are truly disappointed not to be part of the Shockwave tour. We send our sincerest apologies to all our North American fans planning to come out this summer, but we will be back. Please look for FEAR FACTORY headline dates in August."

Added Shockwave organizers: "It is with great disappointment that we have to make this announcement. With the recent departure of VOIVOD from the Shockwave festival lineup, as well as low advance ticket sales, we have decided to pull the plug on the Shockwave festival.

"For purchases made with a credit card, your card will automatically be refunded. All other refunds are available at point of purchase.

"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused."

Other bands that were scheduled to take part in "Shockwave 2012" included VOIVOD, CATTLE DECAPITATION, MISERY INDEX, HAVOK, LAST CHANCE TO REASON and THE BROWNING.

Depois do cancelamento dos shows agendados para setembro de 2010 em São Paulo e Brasília, uma boa notícia para os fãs brasileiros da banda canadense Voivod.

A banda confirmou sua vinda à América do Sul em março de 2011! Uma apresentação no Chile já foi anunciada e será uma festa muito especial que ainda conta com as bandas Exciter e Forbidden!

Até o momento não temos nenhuma informação sobre possível apresentação no Brasil. Vamos aguardar.

SEFOTEU \\ Cancelada turnê do Voivod no Brasil

A produtora dos shows do Voivod no Brasil informou que, infelizmente, foi forçada a cancelar os shows que a banda faria no país. O cancelamento foi devido à impossibilidade de obter vistos de trabalho em tempo hábil.

Os shows aconteceriam nos dias 10 e 11 de setembro, em São Paulo e Brasília.

A devolução do valor dos ingressos será feita a partir de 08 de setembro, quarta-feira. A troca deve ser efetuada no ponto de venda onde o ingresso foi adquirido.




Comentários: A grande quantidade de ótimos shows confirmados nos últimos meses prejudicou diretamente a realização destes shows considerados menores, como aconteceu recentemente com Michael Schenker, Lynch Mob e agora com Voivod.
É uma pena não podermos prestigiar estas ótimas bandas.
Se viessem em outra época, com menos concorrência de eventos, com certeza a procura por ingressos seria bem maior.

A banda canadense Voivod confirmou uma apresentação no Chile no dia 12 de setembro na casa de shows Teatro Caupolicán ao lado das bandas chilenas Dorso, Nuclear e Kingdom Of Hate. Até o momento não foi divulgada nenhuma informação sobre outros shows na América do Sul.

Rocknews \\ Voivod libera duas músicas na internet

A banda canadense Voivod liberou na internet duas músicas novas para os fãs: “Earthache” e “Global Warning”. Essas duas músicas fazem parte do novo álbum do grupo, “Infini”, que será lançado na América do Norte no dia 23 de junho, pela Relapse Records.

Este disco traz as últimas colaborações do guitarrista Denis ‘Piggy’ D’Amour, morto em 2005 em decorrência de um câncer. As gravações foram feitas pelo guitarrista originalmente para um disco solo. A banda utilizou as gravações originais de Piggy que estavam em seu computador para fazerem “Infini”.

O álbum foi mixado pelo baixista da banda, Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica), e será lançado em CD e LP duplo. As novas músicas disponibilizadas pelo Voivod podem ser ouvidas no endereço www.myspace.com/voivod. Abaixo o repertório do novo disco:
