SWEDEN 2013 \\ RUSH Frontman Says SWEDEN ROCK Is 'Test Case' For Band Playing European Festivals
This week, Canadian rock legends RUSH will kick off the European leg of their 2013 "Clockwork Angels" tour. In June, the trek brings them to Sweden for the Sweden Rock Festival, marking the trio's first appearance at a European festival in 34 years. RUSH bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee told VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner what the group has against festivals.
"The way festivals used to be, we were always prevented from bringing our full show to them, so things changed in the last couple of years," he said. "We've started playing a couple of outdoor venues that allow us to do our full show. We did a few in Canada that are multiple-day festivals, where you have a stage to yourself that can accommodate, so that started to turn us around a little bit about playing festivals.
Geddy went on to say if he thinks they'll play more festivals in the future.
"We'll see how this one," he said. "This one in Sweden is kind of a test case for the European festivals, and if we like the end result, then I think we might start doing more of those, because we can play to more people and shorten the show a little bit and just hit more countries that way. That's kind of what's at the back of our minds — if this goes well, maybe we can go to some countries we haven't visited yet."
RUSH's performance at Sweden Rock Festival is scheduled for June 8 in Sölvesborg.

SWEDEN 2013 \\ Kiss: "As pessoas vão ficar boquiabertas com o novo show"

SWEDEN 2013 \\ Europe's Largest Collection Of MÖTLEY CRÜE Memorabilia To Be Displayed At Sweden's ROCKMÄSSAN
The largest collection of MÖTLEY CRÜE memorabilia in Europe will be displayed at this year's edition of the Swedish metal convention Rockmässan, which will be held at the Sweden Rock Festival, set to take place June 5-8 in Sölvesborg, Sweden. The collection includes stage clothes (such as Nikki Sixx’s classic black-and-white dotted dress from the "Theatre Of Pain" tour and the straitjacket Nikki wore on the cover of "Dr. Feelgood"), instruments, awards, unique, never-before-seen photos, personal stuff from the members and much more.
Rockmässan will have a 240-square-meter tent at Sweden Rock, where you will be able to have your picture taken by a professional photographer with some of the artists performing at the festival and get autographs by artists and other rock icons.
As usual, Sweden Rock will hold signing sessions with some of the artists playing during the festival, but on top of that, Rockmässan will invite other exciting people/artists to their tent as well. In addition, 6-8 tattoo artists will be present, including Black Shadows Tattoo, which has tattooed members of SLAYER, MORBID ANGEL, DISSECTION and WATAIN.

SWEDEN 2013 \\ EUROPE To Be Joined By SCOTT GORHAM, MICHAEL SCHENKER At SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL
Swedish hard rockers EUROPE will be joined by special guests Scott Gorham (BLACK STONE RIDERS, THIN LIZZY) and Michael Schenker (ex-SCORPIONS, UFO) at their 30th-anniversary show at the Sweden Rock Festival, set to take place June 5-8 in Sölvesborg, Sweden. This will be EUROPE's only Swedish performance of the anniversary year and it will be a grandiose event indeed, promises singer Joey Tempest. The stage show will be one of the greatest, if not the greatest of the band's entire career. The setlist will be specially composed from EUROPE's entire nine-album discography, including their cult debut "Europe" (1983), multi-million-seller "The Final Countdown" (1986) and their most recent outing, "Bag Of Bones" (2012), which has now reached gold status in Sweden. The performance will also be filmed for a DVD release, so make sure you'll be present when a piece of Swedish rock history will be both created and preserved for posterity.
For the record: today's version of EUROPE is identical to the classic "The Final Countdown" lineup: Joey Tempest (vocals), John Norum (guitar), John Levén (bass), Mic Michaeli (keyboards) and Ian Haugland (drums).
EUROPE celebrated the 30th anniversary of its appearance at the Swedish rock talent contest Rock-SM on December 13, 2012 by performing the song "In The Future To Come" at Hovet in Stockholm during the Scandianvian leg of their "Bag Of Bones" tour.
In 1982, EUROPE singer Joey Tempest's then-girlfriend entered FORCE (as EUROPE was originally known prior to changing its name) in the Rock-SM contest. Competing against 4000 bands, they performed two songs, "In The Future To Come" and "The King Will Return", and won the contest which resulted in a record deal with Hot Records. Tempest also won the individual award for "Best Lead Singer" while EUROPE guitarist John Norum was honored in the "Best Guitarist" category.
"Bag Of Bones" was released in Europe on April 27, 2012 via earMusic/Edel. The CD, which features a guest appearance by blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa (BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION), was produced by Kevin Shirley, who has previously worked with IRON MAIDEN, JOE BONAMASSA, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, BLACK STONE CHERRY and JOURNEY, among others.

The setlist will be specially composed from EUROPE's entire nine-album discography, including their cult debut "Europe" (1983), multi-million-seller "The Final Countdown" (1986) and their most recent outing, "Bag Of Bones" (2012), which has now reached gold status in Sweden. Traduza\\ CANDLEMASS, ENTOMBED And EUROPE Named Greatest Swedish Hard Rock/Metal Bands Of All Time
"Over the past couple of decades, it's hard to think of another country with a population equivalent to that of New York that's had such an impact on hard rock and metal as Sweden has," says editor-in-chief Martin Carlsson. "When Sweden Rock Magazine turns 100, it's only fitting that we pay tribute to the many great talents this country has produced."
In Sweden Rock Magazine #100, the doom masters CANDLEMASS are named the greatest Swedish band of all time.
"To get such an acknowledgement from Sweden Rock Magazine for what we've achieved over almost 30 years is just fantastic. Today, the phenomenon CANDLEMASS is much greater than its individual parts," says CANDLEMASS mainman Leif Edling.
Number two on the list are the legendary death metallers ENTOMBED.
For a CD single sent exclusively to the magazine's subscribers with #100, CANDLEMASS have recorded a heavy version of ENTOMBED's classic death'n'roll song "To Ride, Shoot Straight And Speak The Truth" and ENTOMBED have covered CANDLEMASS uptempo song "Black Dwarf".
"In sports, being number two means you've lost, but since CANDLEMASS are doing a cover of ENTOMBED we see this as a victory," says ENTOMBED vocalist L-G Petrov.
EUROPE, one of Sweden's biggest music exports of all time, are number three on the list.
"We took the long road back and now we've arrived. We used to say that one day this band is going to amount to something. I'm so proud of our crew and my friends in EUROPE," says EUROPE vocalist Joey Tempest.
CANDLEMASS and ENTOMBED both take the stage for two special concerts at Sweden Rock Magazine's 100th-issue party at Debaser Medis in Stockholm, Sweden on January 26, 2013. Tickets are on sale and cost SEK 220. Ticket information: www.debaser.se

Traduza\\ SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL Nominated For 'Best International Music Festival' Award
Sweden Rock Festival is among the nominees for the "Best International Music Festival" award at the Concert Industry Awards from Pollstar, the only trade publication covering the worldwide concert industry. This is the first time a Swedish festival has been nominated for the prize.
"It feels great," says Sweden Rock Festial CEO Mats Natvig. "We see this as an acknowledgement of our long term efforts to make Sweden Rock a comfortable festival with a high service level and friendly atmosphere for our audience and the artists.
"In the last few years, Sweden Rock Festival has enjoyed increasing international recognition and we now get visitors from some 50 countries. This nomination should serve to further strengthen the Sweden Rock brand."
Pollstar magazine was founded in 1981 and is the world's leading live music business magazine. Each year, it invites hundreds of randomly selected music business professionals to participate in nominating for the annual awards gala, Pollstar Concert Industry Awards in Los Angeles. The 2012 winners will be presented on February 7, 2013.

* Sweden Rock Festival
* Bluesfest Byron Bay (Australia)
* Primavera Sound (Spain)
* T In The Park (UK)
* Tomorrowland (Belgium)

MEDA \\ KING DIAMOND's 'Parallel Universe' Photo Unveiled
During a recent appearance on Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show, legendary Danish/American/Swedish King Diamond (KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE) (real name: Kim Bendix Petersen) spoke about the strange photo that was taken of KING DIAMOND during the band's June 9 performance at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden.
"[We have this] picture from [the] Sweden Rock Festival. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen," he said. "It's me sitting with a lantern on a platform in front of the drum riser and our actress Jodi Cachia; she's from Philadelphia. She should have been standing behind me, but all you see [is] one leg up to her thigh, the rest is not there. [The picture] was taken by a Norwegian called Håkan with a super digital camera. Double exposure is not a possibility; you can't cut your leg off and leave it behind and then move the rest of your body so quick that the camera doesn't pick it up. The picture is physically impossible unless you're living in a parallel universe or something, and she was in another universe for a split second coming in right when that photo was taken.
"I don't know if you're familiar with that show 'Fringe'; I've seen it quite a few times. I like it; it deals with these possible parallel universes, and if that was the case, we should call 'Fringe' [laughs] to take a look at this area, because it is freaky.
"I saw [the photo] at nighttime in my hotel in Denmark and we were discussing whether we should call Jodi at her hotel and ask her to be careful in the next couple days in case she has an accident and might lose her leg or something. It almost felt like seeing a snapshot of 'The Omen' movie, but it's the weirdest thing. It looks like a shadow of her leg of that one leg that is shown, it looks like there is a shadow up against the drum riser, but when you zoom in a little, [there is] a black clone of it. There's a shape from the one kick drum with all the shiny metal stuff and the outside of the kick drum you can't see, it's shiny only on one of them. It's so weird.
"There's so many weird things that follow us.
"[KING DIAMOND guitarist] Andy La Rocque said to me, 'Well, duh, it's not that strange. Take a look at [our new stage] set. It looks like a big antennae for the occult.' It really does. It's a pretty big set. Very dark but it's fun."
