Paul foi o primeiro vocalista do Iron Maiden a gravar um álbum com eles e o terceiro na ordem da agora legendária banda inglesa, entre 1978 e 1982.
Gravou os dois primeiros álbuns da banda (Iron Maiden e Killers), porém foi expulso da banda devido a problemas com drogas e substituído por Bruce Dickinson.
