Traduza\\ POISON Drummer, ODUM Frontman In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Exhibition Video

In addition to his drumming duties in POISON, Rikki Rockett has another hobby that's not so usual among the mad and often controversial rock stars: a passion for jiu-jitsu. A vegan and animal-rights activist, Rockett holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. And shortly before hitting the road with DEF LEPPARD and CHEAP TRICK — to prepare for a grueling schedule which will include stops in 40 North American cities through the beginning of September — he took part in an exhibition alongside ODUM frontman Rob Z (blue belt).

Located in Santa Monica, California, the Street Sports Jiu-Jitsu academy, which was founded in 1998 by Renato Magno, is where Rikki and Rob "fought" each other (see video below, taped last month) in a combat that was a mix of an exchange of blows and chat, with ODUM's single "Innersense" serving as the soundtrack.

Magno, who is part of the third generation of fighters from the Gracie family, has had a nearly 30-year-long career. He is also the jiu-jitsu choreographer behind the newly released film of action and drama from Sony Pictures Classics, "Redbelt", written and directed by David Mamet. The cast includes Brazilian actors Rodrigo Santoro and Alice Braga, Joe Mantegna, among other sports celebrities, as well as the former UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) heavyweight champion Randy Couture.

ODUM currently has only two members — Rob (vocals/guitars) and Gus Conde (drums) — and is rehearsing and holding auditions for a new bassist (preferably female) in time for the band's upcoming North American tour.

Comentários: Quem sabe agora, com amigos brasileiros, a banda não tenha interesse em nos visitar e agendar um show por aqui...
