LYRIC Videos \\ JANE'S ADDICTION: 'Another Soulmate' Lyric Video

The official lyric video for a new JANE'S ADDICTION song entitled "Another Soulmate" can be seen below. The track was released in time for JANE'S ADDICTION's co-headlining appearance at the fourth annual Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival, which kicked off on August 9 in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

"Being that we have a tour, I'm really happy that we have a good song that will serve as our calling card when we hit various cities," JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell tells RollingStone,com. "JANE'S is kind of known for long songs; being this is a one-song single, I thought it'd be interesting to try and write a BEATLES-esque short song that would be fast and furious and it would just be fun, dig it and move on, short attention span."
In addition to JANE'S ADDICTION, Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival features ALICE IN CHAINS, COHEED AND CAMBRIA, WALKING PAPERS and DANKO JONES, among others.

Farrell talked to RollingStone.com about some of the other bands on the bill. "I've met the COHEED AND CAMBRIA kids; I like them a lot," he said. "I like how creative they are with their comic-book stuff; it's amazing that they're so into making comics and superheroes and things like that. It reminds me a little bit of the TOOL guys when I first met them and they were really into doing interesting and bizarre things with video. The ALICE [IN CHAINS] guys I've known forever; I knew them in their heyday and I've continued to stay in touch with Jerry Cantrell."

JANE'S ADDICTION released a concert document called "Live In NYC" on June 25. The set was issued on DVD/CD, Blu-ray and double LP vinyl, as well as standalone DVD and CD. The show was filmed and recorded at New York City's Terminal 5 on July 25, 2011, while the band was touring in support of its first studio album in eight years, "The Great Escape Artist".

Lollapalooza Brasil \\ Apesar da pista vazia, Jane's Addiction faz belo show em SP

A banda do dono da bola, digo, do Lollapalooza, o Jane's Addiction não atraiu tanta gente quanto se poderia imaginar, visto ser o grupo um dos ícones dos anos 1990.

O Jane's Addiction tem muitos fãs, mas eles não compareceram em peso nesse domingo. Na pista em frente o palco Butantã havia uma aglomeração - um pessoal fiel, que agitava com fervor - mas era possível circular com tranquilidade e ver de perto Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins e Chris Chaney sem ser esmagado.

Com seu visual inconfundível - sem camisa e com chapéu - Navarro chamou atenção com sua performance e gritos com seus solos e riffs. Dizendo que não queria ir para casa mas que era preciso pois havia sido pego roubando, Perry anunciou o grande 'hit' da banda, "Been Caught Stealing".

"Jane Says" foi o momento semi-acústico, com a banda na frente do palco, baixista e guitarrista sendados em cadeiras, num cenário onde constava uma mesinha com um abat-jour aceso. Já "Twisted Tales" ganhou uma performance politicamente incorreta, com uma figura vestindo uma máscara e enforcando e batendo numa boneca de bebê.

Entre uma canção e outra, Farrell mandava breves discursos, ora engraçados, ora informativos - quando falava sobre a música que tocariam. Eles também serviam para incitar a plateia. Simpático, fazia de conta não notar que parte do público debandava conforme chegava o final do show - estavam se dirigindo para o outro palco, onde se apresentaria o Arctic Monkeys.

Apesar da pista um tanto vazia, o que costuma dar uma amornada em um show, e apesar também da chuva que insistia em cair no Jockey Club durante toda a apresentação dos californianos, o Jane's Addiction fez uma bela apresentação no Lollapalooza.




Comentários: O show foi maravilhoso! Pelo menos assistindo pela TV. O que pesou negativamente foi a falta de interação do público.
Perry Farrel pagou o preço por ter enfiado o Jane's Addiction em uma data do festival que estava repleta de bandinhas indie e público fashionista idem.
Se o Jane's tocasse no sábado, ao lado de Foo Fighters, seria sua grande consagração em palcos brasileiros. Mas preferiram abraçar os Arctic Monkeys. Se fuderam!

Premiere\\ JANE'S ADDICTION: 'Underground' Video Released

Alternative rock pioneers JANE'S ADDICTION recently filmed a video for the song "Underground" off the band's latest album, "The Great Escape Artist". Shot with director Robert Hales (STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, NINE INCH NAILS, BRITNEY SPEARS, MILEY CYRUS, KID ROCK) in Los Angeles at the club Fais Do-Do, originally a speakeasy from the 1920s with a New Orleans ambience, the clip shows frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins, along with Chris Chaney on bass performing while a cast of vaudevillian characters lurk around the dark, smoky setting.

"JANE'S ADDICTION perform in a Los Angeles brothel built in the 1920s," singer Perry Farrell tells Spinner.com of the concept. "There are Siamese Gargoyles, séances, card games and a man in a white fedora who was also on the cover of 'In Through The Out Door'. People get made love to and murdered in the backrooms while the band plays on."

An explicit version of the video will debut at Playboy.com this Friday, January 27 at 10:00 a.m. EST.

"The Great Escape Artist" sold around 24,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 12 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"The Great Escape Artist" is JANE'S ADDICTION's first all-new studio effort since 2003's "Strays", which opened with more than 110,000 units to enter the chart at No. 4.

"The Great Escape Artist" is only JANE'S ADDICTION's fourth album of original material in 20 years. Like other bands that have reunited in recent years such as BLINK-182, the members of JANE'S ADDICTION recorded a lot of the album in separate studios. Drummer Stephen Perkins told The Pulse Of Radio why this worked in JANE'S' favor. "Back in the day, we spent all our time together playing," he said. "Now we have a big pie. JANE'S is just a slice of that pie. But we still want to work and be efficient musicians, so hey, you can't make it to Burbank, you're in Santa Monica? I'll send you the tracks, let's get to work. So it is still just as raw and as emotional as being in the same room together, but it also lets, I guess, a more efficient way of making the record nowadays that we have different things going on in our life."

TRETAS\\ JANE'S ADDICTION Singer Outrages Brazilian Fans

JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell outraged Brazilian music fans shortly after announcing that Lollapalooza will come to that South American nation for the first time next April. According to Rolling Stone, Farrell angered fans by saying they were "uneducated about music" in an interview with the country's largest newspaper, Folha de S. Paulo. He also criticized the promoters for problems with online ticket sales for the event, saying, "They should know what they are doing. They sell tickets to football matches!"

A ticket pre-sale for Lollapalooza Brazil reportedly turned disastrous when the web site crashed within minutes and hackers posted buyers' personal information on the Web.

Brazilian fans went on Twitter to slam Farrell for the remarks. Farrell later posted on Twitter himself, saying that the newspaper's reporter took his comments out of context. He tweeted, "Brazil, I NEVER SAID you were not educated in music! . . . Unfortunately that writer took liberty & put words in my month. Invented things that I DID NOT say in order to cause a sensation. That writer is the disappointment of my otherwise amazing visit to Brazil."

Com relação a escolha das bandas nacionais, Farrell disse que só indicou "O Rappa", por achar o vocalista "sexy" e dizer que eles "parecem um grupo de amigos de Los Angeles: o War.”

Você pode lembrar que ficamos realmente excitados há alguns meses quando o guitarrista Brent Hinds (MASTODON) revelou que está trabalhando em um projeto com o guitarrista Ben Weinman (DILLINGER SCAPE PLAN), o baterista Thomas Pridgen (ex-THE MARS VOLTA) e o baixista Eric Avery (ex-JANE'S ADDICTION). Desde então nós não ouvimos muita coisa sobre o projeto acima até que Ben Weinman emitiu uma longa nota no site do DILLINGER, que colocou um pouco mais de luz no projeto. Aqui está a boa notícia:

Que conveniente o fato de que Hinds e Weinman estarão juntos na estrada por um mês inteiro. Certamente, haverá um tempo ocioso entre os shows onde os dois trabalharão em alguma música. JANE'S ADDICTION will release its new album, "The Great Escape Artist", on Tuesday, October 18 via Capitol. Spun through a kaleidoscope of tightly wound riffs, hypnotic harmonies, booming beats, and an unmistakable howl, the record announces the beginning of the next chapter for the alternative rock torchbearers.

The writing process began in 2010 and by early 2011 the band entered a Los Angeles studio with producer Rich Costey. Their intent was to travel a different road, and consequentially they paved an entirely new path for alternative music at large. Costey introduced Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro and Stephen Perkins to TV ON THE RADIO's Dave Sitek with the hopes of getting him involved somehow. "Irresistible Force", the new video from alternative rock pioneers JANE'S ADDICTION, can be seen below. The swirling, moody and epic composition is taken from the band's anticipated new album "The Great Escape Artist", now set for release on October 4.

For "The Great Escape Artist", JANE'S ADDICTION joined forces with producer Rich Costey (MUSE, FRANZ FERDINAND, INTERPOL), with TV ON THE RADIO's Dave Sitek on the team. Sitek, best known for his production work on TV ON THE RADIO, YEAH YEAH YEAHS and THE FOALS, is writing, programming, and playing bass on the album. The band, with Chris Chaney on bass, will be touring throughout 2011.

JANE'S ADDICTION recently teamed up with Indaba Music to create a remix contest around "Irresistible Force".

Indaba Music's worldwide network of musicians have the opportunity to remix "Irresistible Force" by downloading the track's audio stems, and uploading their unique remix submissions to the JANE'S ADDICTION contest page. Fans are also able to vote on their favorite submissions through the contest page, and through the official JANE'S ADDICTION Facebook page.

Rocknews\\ Confirmadas as datas da edição em São Paulo do festival Lollapalooza em 2012

Está confirmado o festival Lollapalooza, em São Paulo no ano que vem. O evento comemora seus 20 anos de existência com três dias de música começando na sexta-feira em Chicago.

Há seis anos, o festival foi revivido como um grande evento de um fim de semana de duração no Grant Park em Chicago, com centenas de bandas, e no ano passado foi ampliado para Santiago, no Chile.

O festival ocorrerá no ano que vem entre 31 de março a 1º de abril no O'Higgins Park, em Santiago, e depois entre 07 e 08 de abril no Jockey Clube, em São Paulo, antes de voltar ao Hemisfério Norte, no verão, entre 03 e 05 de agosto em Chicago.

"Se pudermos nos aproximar dos brasileiros, quem sabe como será o Lollapalooza. Eles têm uma longa história de festas", disse Perry Farrell, que fundou o festival em 1991 como uma turnê de despedida para a banda dele, o Jane's Addiction.

Ainda não foram divulgadas informações sobre a venda de ingressos para a edição de São Paulo.

Em recente entrevista, o frontman do JANE'S ADDICTION, Perry Farrell, admitiu para a Rolling Stone que a banda ficou contrariada com o ex-baixista do GUNS N' ROSES, Duff McKagan, que entrou para o Jane's em 2009 e saiu seis meses depois. "Ele não estava muito confortável com a gente. Pensamos que seria uma boa ideia, mas acabamos ficando contrariados com ele." "Alas, the time came for me to depart and get back to my thing, which is LOADED all the time, writing my book, developing a new business, and the ever-present hunt for a VELVER REVOLVER singer. The press blew the whole thing out of proportion to begin with, and in the end I was left to try and explain my way out of a situation that was just so simple. Creative guys . . . getting creative."

The E! network is teaming with "Real World" producer Bunim-Murray Prods. for the series, which stars Susan Holmes McKagan, married to former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER/LOADED bassist Duff McKagan; Etty Farrell, whose husband is JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell; Josie Stevens, a model married to Billy Idol's longtime guitarist Steve Stevens; and AJ Celi, who has been in a relationship with guitarist Billy Duffy of THE CULT for the past three years.

"So many women have a fantasy about landing a rock star," said Lisa Berger, executive vice president of programing at E! "We're raising the curtain on the rock 'n' roll lifestyle and showing there's more to it than the late-night partying, ravaged hotel rooms and jet-set life we've all read about. But, of course, there's all of that too."

E! has ordered eight episodes of the series, which will premiere at 10:30 p.m. on November 7.

O baixista Duff McKagan (VELVET REVOLVER, LOADED, ex-GUNS N' ROSES deixou o JANE'S ADDICTION após cerca de cinco meses com a banda, informou a agência de notícias Reuters. O músico fez alguns shows como parte da banda e contribuiu com a composição do primeiro disco do JANE'S em sete anos.

"Hey, nós gostaríamos de agradecer ao Duff por nos ajudar a escrever canções para o nosso novo disco," disse a banda por e-mail. "Nós amamos as canções em que trabalhamos com ele - e os shows foram um arraso -, mas musicalmente nós estávamos todos indo em diferentes direções. De agora em diante Duff sai para trabalhar em suas próprias coisas, então nós lhe desejamos todo o melhor."

Stephanie Lazarus of Gibson.com recently conducted an interview with JANE'S ADDICTION/ex-RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS guitarist Dave Navarro. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Gibson.com: What's happening with the new JANE'S album?

Navarro: We're in process of recording and I just tracked some stuff with the Epiphone [guitar] about two weeks ago. I wanted some bright percussive acoustic coloring underneath some dirty distorted rock guitars to kind of widen it out a bit and have the notes be a little more articulated. So I used it for that. And, you know, Duff McKagan from GUNS N' ROSES is in the band now, so we had a real creative burst over the past few months working with a new guy and having an all-new energy on board. I'm really excited about it.

Gibson.com: Are you enjoying working with them again?

Navarro: Oh, yeah, yeah. One of the fortunate things for me is that having been in and out of this so many times, after a point you realize, this is what I do, this is the home that I'm gonna be in. At the end of the day, we may have taken five or six-year hiatuses, but we've never really broken up. And the beautiful thing now is we're all really unified as a band, but we also have our own personal identities and directions and lives and interests so we all have plenty of time to do JANE'S ADDICTION, for the most part, full-time and also be able to do other projects that interest us individually. We didn't have that luxury in the old days.

Gibson.com: You seem to do a little bit of everything — writing, directing, reality TV, Internet radio. Anything you'd still like to do? Act, produce, learn to surf?

Navarro: I've done plenty of acting stuff and television production and film production, but music production, I don't know about just because I feel if I'm going to spend that much time in a recording studio I'd rather have it be on music that I'm making. Is there anything else I want to do? You know, those things present themselves to me as I go along; I'm fortunate that way. Very few of those things you listed are things that I went after because I was interested in them. They were opportunities and they were of interest. Who's to say what's next. I probably don't know right off the top of my head.

Gibson.com: Why did you recently stop doing the weekly Internet radio show, "Dark Matter", on Indie1031.com?

Navarro: I still love doing radio and I plan to continue doing it. I just wanted to take some time away from it so I could focus on the record. Right now, we're deep in the record and the writing process. And that's a labor of love (the show): we don't get paid, we do it because we love it and we love interacting with people. It's a call-in talk-radio show, a lot of music, a lot of bands, and in-studio performances — everything from undiscovered indie groups to Chrissie Hynde. I am also working in CAMP FREDDY, my other band, which is a huge cover band that I do with a lot of different artists. So between those projects, which are all musically fueled, and focused on guitar playing, it's difficult to get a free moment. It's definitely something I'll revisit once I come up for air.

Gibson.com: Do you talk to anyone from the [RED HOT] CHILI PEPPERS anymore?

Navarro: When I have the opportunity. As much as I don't speak to them often, whenever I have the opportunity it's always a great thing and a happy occasion. Chad Smith still remains one of my favorite people of all time — in my top ten favorite human beings to have existed.

Gibson.com: Will there ever be a CAMP FREDDY album?

Navarro: We talked about it for many, many years, but the logistics of something like that really doesn't translate to what we're about. We're a live band and we're about the fun on stage and whoever's gonna get up with us — we don't know from night to night. And when you go into a studio to record songs that have already been recorded, it's difficult to recreate that kind of energy and spontaneity, so it's unlikely at this juncture.

Singer Perry Farrell tells Spinner the pairing between JANE'S ADDICTION and former GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan is a perfect one.

"We came up together. We had the exact experience in the same city, being in a rock band that was breaking big," Farrell said. "We came up through that, all the seediness and the debauchery, so it's all there. I couldn't have asked for a better partner, I'll tell you that right now."

McKagan brings a lot to the table, through his experience with GUNS and VELVET REVOLVER, as well as frontman experience of his own with LOADED, but with everybody having been friends for years there are no egos involved. "He writes, he's cool, he's considerate, he's respectful, he gives space, he's positive, he's intelligent," Farrell said. "He's a star."

O guitarrista do JANE'S ADDICTION, Dave Navarro comentou sobre a saída do baixista original da banda, Eric Avery e sobre a audição do baixista Duff McKagan (VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES).

Quando perguntado por um fã no web site oficial de Navarro porque o JANE'S ADDICTION não continua suas atividades com um nome diferente, agora que o Eric - que foi uma parte importante no som da banda e compositor dos álbuns "Nothing's Shocking" (1988) e “Ritual de lo Habitual" (1990)- não é mais um membro do grupo, Dave respondeu:

"Eric foi e continua sendo uma grande parte do Jane's. Ele decidiu sair por suas próprias razões.

Nós três [membros restantes] do JANE'S ADDICTION temos passado a maior parte de nossa carreira nesta banda e tivemos muitas mudanças de formação ao longo dos anos. Pra nós, mudar o nome não faz sentido. Seria outra situação totalmente diferente se o Eric tivesse pedido para sair ou se não tivesse a intenção de tocar músicas dos álbuns 'XXX', 'Nothing's Shocking' e 'Ritual'. Se isso tivesse sido o caso, eu concordaria totalmente.

Eu passei pela experiência de ser o ‘novato’ em bandas já existentes, que tinha apenas dois membros fundadores. Nunca em um milhão de anos eu teria esperado que eles mudassem seu nome."

Sobre a audição do baixista Duff McKagan Navarro comentou:

“Temos tocado nosso catálogo e escrito com o Duff vários dias por semana. No entanto, o processo de introdução de um novo membro requer mais do que isso. Tem de haver uma educação musical e pessoal. Aprendizagens dinâmicas, sensibilidades, personalidades e muitos outros detalhes são essenciais. Temos tido ótimos momentos com tudo isso e temos expandido o que podemos fazer individualmente e como grupo. É mais profundo do que apenas aprender algumas músicas com o Duff. Ele tem que aprender sobre nós e nós temos que aprender sobre ele. Tocar o material mais antigo é como um curso intensivo com o Jane's, enquanto a composição é uma classe de aceleração para todos nós. É muito bom estar em ambas as classes de uma só vez, algo que nunca fizemos no passado com um novo membro".

A nova formação do JANE'S ADDICTION fez sua primeira apresentação ao vivo no dia 30 março em Los Angeles, Califórnia na celebração dos 51 anos do vocalista Perry Farrell. O set incluiu um cover de "Whole Lotta Love" do Led Zeppelin.

Rocknews\\ Perry Farrell quer trazer Lollapalooza ao Brasil

Em entrevista concedida ao jornal “Folha de S. Paulo”, Perry Farrell, líder do Jane's Addiction afirmou que pretende trazer o festival Lolapallooza ao Brasil. Segundo o vocalista, já estão acontecendo negociações com empresas brasileiras para viabilizar o projeto, mas ainda não há detalhes sobre datas e nem em que cidade aconteceria o evento. O que Farrell confirmou é que, como acontece nos EUA, o festival terá bandas de rock e DJs de música eletrônica.

O Lolapalooza nasceu em 1991 nos Estados Unidos, idealizado e organizado por Farrell. Sempre com um line-up cheio de bandas importantes, se tornou um dos festivais mais respeitados do mundo. Em 2009, o festival aconteceu em Chicago e teve atrações como The Killers, Kings of Leon, Depeche Mode, Vampire Weekend, Lou Reed e Snoop Dog.

O Jane´s Addiction, banda de Farrell, se apresenta no Brasil no dia 7 de novembro, dentro do Maquinária Festival.
