SLAYER bassist/vocalist Tom Araya was interviewed for this week's episode of Noisecreep's "Creep Show", which can be heard/viewed below. During the chat, Araya discussed the experiences that led to SLAYER's decision to leave the road and postpone the "American Carnage" and "Canadian Carnage" shows, the grisly details of his recent surgery, the support he has received from fans and friends and specific plans for the upcoming "Carnage" dates and European tour.
Araya was joined during the podcast by Noisecreep editor-in-chief Seth Werkheiser, Revolver senior writer and Noisecreep regular Jon Wiederhorn, Noisecreep lead blogger Amy Sciarretto and Noisecreep's news guy Chris Harris.
SLAYER's first performance since Araya underwent surgery will take place May 20 on ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (the appearance was rescheduled from its original date of November 4, 2009).
SLAYER's "American Carnage" tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to Araya's ongoing, minimally invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a cervical radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an anterior cervical discectomy with fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate. That surgery took place in January.
SLAYER's track "Hate Worldwide" was nominated for a Grammy Award in the "Best Metal Performance" category. The award eventually went to British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST, who were honored for the track "Dissident Aggressor", from the band's 2009 live album "A Touch of Evil: Live".
