A cidade do Rio de Janeiro voltará a realizar o festival Rock In Rio em 2011, e, de acordo com o jornalista Lauro Jardim (da revista Veja), o prefeito Eduardo Paes e o organizador do festival Roberto Medina definiram que o festival será realizado no mês de setembro.
Segundo o jornalista, a prefeitura carioca quer transfomar a área do evento em um parque permanente visando não repetir o que aconteceu com a antiga Cidade do Rock, que foi palco de duas das três edições anteriores e está abandonada.
