We were having a chinwag with the Metal God himself and, being more metal than anyone who has ever walked the Earth, we thought we’d ask him to pass judgement on Bring Me The Horiozn’s new effort. Check out his reaction inside!
Judas Priest frontman and god of all things metal, Rob Halford took the time speak to us yesterday and, having a chat about all things metal, we thought we’d ask the none-more-metal frontman about the tricky subject of Bring Me The Horizon.
What do you think of BMTH?
Halford: At the end of the day when I listen to music I listen to it in two ways, a) as a musician and b) just how it makes me feel. I think that they’ve got something really good, simple as that.
The production is pushing metal…
Halford: “You’ve got to take that step, it’s a leap of faith. I’m always full of praise for people who do what are considered risky things. And it seems to be the norm that if you attack something for this or that reason, the band are generally on to some really good idea. It could be setting a new standard. You have to be open minded in that way.
“Human reaction to music is all based on passion. Anyone can say, ‘oh that sucks, I fucking hate it’, but WHY does it suck exactly? Can you be a bit more specific? But I’m just as bad. I think Horizon are pushing the limits and it’s great that it’s coming from a UK based band.”
Sad Wings Of Destiny had a similar reaction to BMTH back in the day didn’t it?
Halford: “I remember KK kept this cutting from a reviewer from a London paper on Sad Wings and it basically said it was the biggest load of shit he’d heard in his life and it wasn’t going to go anywhere, so there you go… It just goes to show you that people can be wrong, people can give things a D when it should be getting an A+. I’m all for experimentation. The last thing you should do in a band is chase after the public’s acceptance, that’s not what this is about, it’s your job – if you want to call it that – to grow and develop and enlighten people and show them the endless possibilities of what you can do in all kinds of types of music – especially heavy metal.”
